This annual event has been designed to educate, empower, and encourage the sickle cell patient and caregiver community. With the theme "Sickle Cell Excellence: Breaking Barriers", the Consortium continues its education of the Sickle Cell community.
Among the presenters will be Dr. Zamip Patel, urologist in Orlando, Florida, who has been a long-standing supporter of the sickle cell community. His in-person presentation is scheduled for July 20, on “SC Men's Health: Physical (to include Priapism).” Priapism is a common complication in males with sickle cell disease, including children, adolescents, and adults. Repeated episodes of priapism may cause permanent damage to the male reproductive system.
States Dr. Zamip Patel, “I’m greatly honored to have been invited to this event, the invitation reflecting the Consortium’s opinion that my expertise is helpful to the sickle cell community. For a long time, I have been an active supporter of the sickle cell community, and have tried to do my part to advance treatments of related conditions. This year’s Warrior Convention is a unique opportunity to once again share the newest research in this regard.”
The Convention will provide updates on the latest advances in clinical care and emerging new therapies. Attendance will be of great interest for the community of patients, care givers, health care providers, social workers, students, and those with interest in sickle cell and chronic pain.

About the Sickle Cell Consortium
The Sickle Cell Community Consortium is a US-based non-profit formed in 2014 to “harness and amplify the power of the patient voice”. The Consortium is comprised of sickle cell community-based organizations (CBOs), patient and caregiver advocates, community partners and medical and research advisers. These stakeholders collectively form the General Assembly of CBOs and Advocates, the decision-making body of the Consortium. The Consortium acts as an organizing entity providing the framework for the stakeholders of the General Assembly to apply a model of Collective Impact to define problems and gaps in the sickle cell community, identify strategies to address those needs and gaps, and determine the CBO, Community, and Corporate partnerships best equipped to implement those strategies to achieve significant and sustainable change.

For those affected by ED, surgery may not be the first solution that comes to mind. However, according to an NIH study, the efficacy rates are quite high. Zamip Patel, M.D. answers some of the questions that patients may have in his new videos.
Men are often hesitant to discuss matters of their reproductive systems, such as erectile dysfunction(ED). However, according to studies, approximately 23% of men aged 40-80 years worldwide have symptoms of ED. In fact, ED is found in men of all ages, with the prevalence increasing with age. There is a wide range of causes and contributing facts, including lifestyle, or neurological, hormonal, vascular, or even psychological causes. For example, diabetes is a common cause since this condition relates to both neurological and vascular factors involved in ED.
Treatment begins with a medical exam and review of one’s medical history. Your doctor may prescribe medication at first, but if medication does not produce any improvements, the doctor may recommend surgery or even an implant. In some cases, surgery may be the only treatment option for men with severe ED. This is sometimes the case for men who have suffered physical trauma, had prior pelvis surgery, or have another medical condition.
For those patients who are considering implants, Dr. Zamip Patel has made a series of videos available on his YouTube Channel, https://www.youtube.com/@Dr.ZamipPatel. The videos explain the procedure, pre-op management, and post-op instructions. There is even an explanatory video in Spanish.
Explains Dr. Patel, “While the prospect of an implant may sound scary, most men who have undergone this type of surgery report satisfaction with the results. In fact, implants have a high rate of satisfaction compared to other ED treatments.”
Dr. Patel adds a word of caution. While educational videos can provide generalized explanations, “such videos are only part of the ‘information gathering’ before any treatment. Proper diagnosis and treatment require a physical exam of the patient and review the patient’s medical history.”

Florida urologist Dr. Zamip Patel now offers informational videos about various andrology issues, but cautions that reliable medical advice requires a physician’s medical exam and review of medical history.
In the age of the internet, the search for reliable information can be a daunting task. But for those seeking a comprehensive urological guide for male infertility, help has arrived. Dr. Zamip Patel, urologist in Orlando, Florida, is introducing an innovative YouTube channel, dedicated to helping men who are struggling with infertility and other issues of the reproductive system. See https://www.youtube.com/@Dr.ZamipPatel
The channel provides resources to anyone looking to gain a better understanding of male infertility and the treatment options available.
Many men are hesitant to discuss intimate matters such as infertility and ED, even with doctors who could answer their questions and help them find solutions. To make such information more accessible in a judgment-free environment in the comfort of their homes, Dr. Patel has started the YouTube channel on Andrology issues which cover a wide range, ranging from medications to surgery, from the urinary to the reproductive system of the male body.
Let’s take male infertility as an example. For couples struggling to conceive, the medical term "male infertility" may be daunting and unfamiliar. But with a little urological insight, the causes and treatments of this nowadays all-too-common affliction can be better understood.
Research indicates that male infertility is a complex subject, with potential influences ranging from environmental exposures to variances in the hormone system. And, while there is no single "cure," medical experts have identified several effective strategies to help couples conceive and build a family, some of which Dr. Patel discusses in his videos.
Emphasizes Dr. Patel, "It is essential to undergo a thorough evaluation and diagnosis from a urologist when facing male infertility issues to narrow down the range of possible causes."
But Dr. Patel also cautions the visitors to his YouTube Channel that “informational videos can only be considered the ‘information gathering’ before beginning of any treatment. For proper diagnosis and treatment, a doctor should conduct a physical exam of the patient and review the patient’s medical history.”

Male fertility has been declining, sometimes called the Male Infertility Crisis. Medical professionals are pondering the causes, contributing factors, and improved treatment options. AI now offers enhanced treatment now. The Podcast will be available through YouTube, Instagram, Spotify, and other outlets after July 6.
The increase of male infertility since the mid-1970s is referred as the “Male Infertility Crisis.” The issue became apparent after a 2017 meta-analysis that found that sperm counts had declined by 52.4 percent between 1973 and 2011. The decline was particularly apparent in Western countries such as New Zealand and Australia, Europe, and North America. A subsequent 2022 meta-analysis found that decline also in non-Western countries in Asia, Africa, Central America, and South America. Further, that meta-analysis suggested that the decline in sperm counts may be accelerating. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Male_infertility_crisis#:~:text=Another%20meta%2Danalysis%20in%202022,countries%20(1986%2D2018). There may also be societal issues, such as increasing paternal age and environmental pollution, as contributing factors.
Regardless of the exact causes, there is a societal demand for greater understanding of male infertility and new approaches for its prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
Dr. Zamip Patel will discuss the development AI technology in this regard. Dr. Patel has been in practice since 2011 and specializes in Andrology, particularly ED and male infertility at his clinic, Southeast Male Infertility and Urology. He is an expert on male reproduction, and microsurgical techniques related to the male reproductive organ tract.
In his presentation, Dr. Patel will discuss how artificial intelligence is being used to help diagnose and treat male infertility. He will also talk about the potential benefits and risks of using AI in this field.
One may first wonder what AI can do to treat infertility. AI is actually a broad field with numerous potential applications in fertility. For example, the principal test of male fertility potential, the Semen Analysis (SA), is in fact a composite of various parameters. The SA as well as other laboratory tests involve physiological mechanisms that interact in complex ways. If through AI such tests can made more specific, or adapted for a particular patient, then they can greatly improve the medical outcomes.
Dr. Patel explains that “AI has many potential applications to improve the results of male infertility treatments, for example in selecting the best oocyte and sperm combination, or for predicting embryo quality. AI may assist medical professionals in optimizing patient-specific treatments to enhance IVF.”
This is a timely topic as AI is being increasingly used in healthcare, and male infertility is a growing problem. Dr. Patel's presentation will be of interest to practicing physicians who want to learn more about this emerging area of medicine, as well as patients who are affected by this issue.
The Podcast will be available through various Social Media and news channels, including YouTube, Instagram, Spotify, and other outlets after July 6.

Experienced urology doctor’s blog will discuss the function, surgery, and pathology of male reproductive organs and gametes, but also common conditions such as urinary tract infections, kidney stones, bladder control problems, and prostate problems.
By Southeast Male Infertility and Urology
Orlando, Florida, May 26, 2023 -- Doctor Zamip Patel, an experienced urologist, has published a publicly available Blog to provide easy-to-understand information about urology and related health issues.
The Blog is available at https://zamippatel-md.com/
In his Blog, Dr. Patel will focus on his particular research interests that include the function, surgery, and pathology of male reproductive organs and gametes, but will also write about common conditions such as urinary tract infections, kidney stones, bladder control problems, and prostate problems.
Dr. Patel explains that “in today’s busy urology practices, medical doctors and their staff rarely have the time to answer all questions that the patients have. The patients often start searching on the internet. However, one should not act based solely on information found on the internet, but instead review the issues with the medical doctor who has the patient’s medical history and has personally examined the patient. Also, when patients research online, they find highly complex answers that are very difficult to understand for a layperson, or even contradictory information. I hope to fill that information gap with explanatory articles that anybody can understand.”
For example, many people hear and talk about “infertility” and the difficult path to conceiving. But infertility in men can have many different causes, for example low sperm production, abnormal sperm function or blockages that prevent the delivery of sperm. Conditions such as illnesses, injuries, chronic health problems, lifestyle choices and others may factor in and contribute to male infertility. However, male fertility is not necessarily permanent. Whether it can be treated depends on the underlying cause.
Dr. Patel cautions patients to review medical issues with their medical doctor and not to act on information they find randomly on the internet. His blog is available at https://zamippatel-md.com/
